Youths remanded over gunpoint cell phone robberies

Two young men were remanded last Friday when they appeared on joint charges of robbery under arms before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.
Clive Ford, 17, called ‘Jamal Augustine’ and ‘Lil Ford’ of 35 Laing Avenue and Winston Mohammed, 17, of Block One, East Ruimveldt allegedly robbed Colwin Mercurious of one cell phone valued $15,000 and Rafael Hinckson of a cell phone valued $21,000 at gunpoint on April 25.
Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson representing Mohammed said that it is impossible for his client to be charged along with Ford since he does not know the other young man. Thompson expressed surprise that his client was charged since according to him an identification parade was held and the virtual complainants (VC) had said they “thought” it was him, but were not sure.
Police prosecutor Desiree Fowler said that she did not want to get into the facts but Mohammed was positively identified by the VCs.
The young men were remanded until May 19.
