Man, 45, injured in AM Mandela Avenue crash

A 45-year-old man is in a serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after being involved in a two-vehicle smash up early yesterday morning on Mandela Avenue
Razack Khan of Crown Dam, Industry, East Coast Demerara, sustained injuries to his head, chest and other parts of the body and was rushed to the operating theatre for surgery.

Details of the accident, which occurred shortly after 6 am, remain sketchy but this newspaper was reliably informed that Khan was driving a minibus which collided with a Canter truck coming in the opposite direction, just off a sharp turn, a short distance from the North Ruimveldt Multilateral School.
The impact was so hard, that the Canter truck ended up in a roadside trench, a few feet from the point of impact. Shattered glass and other materials from the vehicles littered the roadside.
When Stabroek News, visited the hospital’ Khan’s relatives were outside the operating theatre anxiously awaiting word on his condition.

They said that they did not know much about the accident or what injuries Khan sustained.
At the time of the accident, Khan was alone. The other driver escaped unhurt this newspaper understands.
