Chef-de-Mission for Olympic pre-registration meeting today

Chef-de-Mission of the Guyana contingent for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Noel Adonis, said yesterday he would be involved in a conference call to the Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (OCOG) today.

Adonis told Stabroek Sport yesterday that the purpose of the call was to iron-out some of Guyana’s pre-registration details for the summer games.
Those details include accreditation and documentation of prospective athletes and officials.
Adonis said that the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) had submitted the names of the athletes who have made the qualifying standard such as Marian Burnett and Allian Pompey as well as the other local and overseas-based athletes who have not made the qualifying standards, just in case they did so at the last minute.

He added that the GOA was still awaiting an update from the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) for some of the latest times of athletes including Cleveland Forde, who is training at the Kip Keino High Altitude Centre in Kenya.

It is also hoped that Taekwondo draws a wild card qualifying spot.

Adonis said the selection of officials would take into consideration the size of the overall contingent and the number of sports discipline.
