Man jailed for trying to steal tarpaulin

A 28-year-old North Sophia man was sentenced to one year imprisonment by Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle after he pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to commit a felony.

Royston Forde, a sculptor of North Sophia, attempted to steal a vinyl tarpaulin from the compound of the Redeemer Lutheran Church at Pike and Sheriff streets last Sunday. The tarpaulin was rented to the church by Ray Rahaman who was not present in court yesterday.

Forde when asked by the magistrate if he agreed with everything that was said replied that he did. The man who is not a first offender quietly left the courtroom when his sentence was handed down to him.
