Inter-religious body urges widespread condemnation of NCC arson

The Inter-Religious Organization (IRO) of Guyana is condemning what it said were “calculated and deliberate acts” in  the recent attempted arson on the National Cultural Centre (NCC) and is calling on all Guyanese to do likewise, as well as to repudiate any attempts to impede the smooth running off of Carifesta X.

The IRO in a press release said that it holds the view that such an attempt “is not just an assault upon the institution of creative arts and culture, but also upon the historical legacy, social stability, and national development of this country.”

The IRO also stated that it is “extremely concerned about what appears to be a direct link between the attack on the Culture, Youth and Sport Ministry, and this recent attempted arson on the National Cultural Centre.”

“Such calculated and deliberate acts. . ,” the IRO said, “spring out of motives that are unhealthy and unproductive, and are in the disinterest of nationhood.”

The organization also condemned  the arson attempt on the Culture, Youth and Sport Ministry while expressing grave concern at the recent arson attempt on  the NCC.
