Agriculture minister receives alleged ‘Fineman’ text message

The police are investigating a report that Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud received a text message on his cell phone on Friday claiming to be from wanted man Rondel Rawlins, called ‘Fineman.’

A release from the Police Public Relations Office yesterday said that at about 18:55 hours on Friday, the minister received a text message saying that Rawlins and his gang were planning to “cause misery in Regent Street” the following day. The message indicated that it was intended for Persaud and the President.

According to the police, it went on to read that Rawlins was not concerned if the minister was killed there because “lots of life will done there too,” following which it said that the “Secretary of State” should stop wasting time in Linden as Rondel Rawlins and his gang members were in an undisclosed area.

The release said that police investigations had discovered that the text message had been sent from an IP address used by Kaieteur News and that several staff members had been questioned and had given statements.

Investigations are continuing.
