Armed bandits grab US$14,000 from travel agency

Police are on the hunt for two men who committed a daring midmorning robbery on Somwaru’s Travel Service Limited on North Road, escaping with some US$14,000 after gun-butting an employee and a security guard.

Reports reaching Stabroek News are that around 10:30 am as staff were tending to some cash, two unmasked men walked in and held them up with a gun.

At the time, four staff members and two customers were in the building. Before escaping with the foreign currency, which was handed over to them, the men also relieved a staff member of a diamond ring and hit a manager and a security guard with the gun.

This newspaper was told that the guard was also robbed of his chain and cash.

The men fled the scene on a motorcycle and up to press time, the police were still looking for them.
