CIOG says destroying state institutions won’t solve problems

The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) condemns the recent attempt to destroy the National Cultural Centre by fire and urges the public to let good sense prevail in the interest of the nation.

In a press release, the CIOG said the Constitution allows for the airing of differences and bringing them to the attention of the wider society without resorting to violence in any form. It said citizens can participate in strikes, sit-ins, marches and picketing as a means of exerting pressure on opposing forces without resorting to violent confrontations.

The CIOG said it is sure that destroying the Cultural Centre, a national institution would not have solved the problems of the perpetrators. Therefore, it calls on all parties concerned to resolve their differences by dialogue and to use constitutional means available to compel their arguments.
