-intruder captured on film

The Ministry of Agriculture says it has lost electronic gear from two break-ins that have occurred one month apart at its Regent Street and Vlissengen Road office.

In a press release the ministry said on May 31 thieves removed three 17-inch flat panel monitors from the Minister’s Secretariat and the Personnel Department. Then, on July 4 at about 1.20 am bandits ransacked the Permanent Secretary’s drawers and escaped with two 17-inch flat panel monitors and a CPU.

They also broke and entered the office of the CEO, Corporate Secretary and the Storekeeper at the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority. Attempts were also made to break into the minister’s and deputy permanent secretary’s offices.

The ministry said since the first incident an electronic surveillance system had been installed and images of the perpetrator have been captured. The tapes will be submitted to the police to assist with the investigations and disseminated in the public to help identify the thief. The ministry said it has not yet estimated its losses.

The ministry said that external security is provided by RK Security.
