China, Guyana militaries to advance relations

Chinese Defence Minister Liang Guanglie said his country is ready to work with Guyana to boost friendly relations between the armed forces.

According to Xinhua News Liang who is also state councillor discussed this issue with Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force Commodore Gary Best.

(Xinhua Photo)China and Guyana have enjoyed increasing cooperation in politics, economics, trade, culture, education and health since forging diplomatic ties in 1972, Liang said. He noted too that the two militaries have had sound growth of bilateral relations in recent years.

Echoing Liang, Best said the two armed forces “have good relations” and he hoped that they would continue “expanding and deepening ex-changes and cooperation.”  Best also met with the Chief of the General Staff of the People’s Liberation Army Chen Bingde earlier on Friday. He said he “has every confidence” in China’s ability to hold successful Olympic Games. The Commodore also expressed condolences to China for the loss of lives in the May 12 earthquake.
