No Lights, no fights

The scheduled third night of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) national open boxing championships at the National Gymnasium was knocked out by a blackout.

Not a punch was thrown and the organizers, who in a press release said they  “sincerely apologized for the postponement of the final night of fights in the Gaskin and Jackson Jewellers Amateur National Open Boxing Championships at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue,” have now rescheduled the event for Saturday night.

A power failure in the vicinity of the National Gymnasium caused the cancellation of Tuesday evening’s proceedings.

According to GABA the presentation of prizes to the respective winners will also take place on Saturday with activities scheduled to start at 3pm.

Some 26 fights were on the cards for the final nights which include all remaining finals in under15, Cadet and National Open categories.

All boxers who reside out of Georgetown and were housed at the National Gymnasium returned to their respective areas yesterday.

The GABA also said they would like to thank Humphrey’s Bakery who supplied 70 loaves of bread each day for the housed boxers value at over G$35,000.
