Leslie Amsterdam Memorial competition to bowl off soon

The Leslie Amsterdam Memorial U-17 limited overs cricket competition will begin as soon as the composition of the five Zonal teams is confirmed and the weather holds.

This was disclosed by Chairman of the Competitions Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Carl Moore.

According to Moore, the lower as well as the central Corentyne teams have already been identified but the West Berbice, New Amsterdam/Canje and the Upper Corentyne teams have not yet been identified.

Moore stated that this was because the inclement weather had forced trials for the other teams to be pushed back.

According to Moore the competition will help with the selection of a Berbice team that will take part in the annual CLICO U-17 inter county two-day competition scheduled for early September.

Meanwhile, over 100 clubs in Berbice have been sent invitation to field teams for the upcoming Tenelec Inc. U-15 limited overs competition.

Moore, in an invited comment, told Stabroek Sport that they were awaiting replies in the affirmative from the clubs before announcing the fixtures.

Moore said he wanted the competition to bowl off as early as possible not withstanding the weather so as to have the school children back in their class rooms when schools reopen on September 1.

Moore added that he was urging the clubs that have been sent forms to return them as early as possible so as to ascertain their participation.

Another competition that has been held up by the rain is the Spready’s Bakery of Port Mourant, Corentyne and Carpen’s Hardware of New York U-19 50 Over competition that will see an expected thirty teams participating in this competition.

Moore said the BCB was hoping to have this tournament concluded also before school reopens.

The Berbice leg of the Republic Bank Right Start Secondary School U-17 one day competition is also in the pipeline but this too depends on the inclement weather.

Corentyne are the District Champions.
