Newland takes 7-20 as Police complete double win in B’ce Zone of N&M nationwide competition

Fast bowler Michael Newland had figures of 7-20 as Berbice Police routed Rose Hall Community Centre (RHCC) for a paltry 53 in their second match in the Berbice zone of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Neal and Massey limited overs competition last weekend.

Newland rocked RHCC by claiming their first four wickets to leave them shakily placed on 29-4. He returned later to pick up three more wickets which saw them drop to 42-8 before Jevaughn Stephens (2-0) took the final two wickets that saw RHCC being dismissed for 53.

In reply, Police found the going touch and were rocking on 14-3, then 49-6 before they limped to 54-8 to squeeze home by two wickets. Jason Leitch led their romp home with a fighting 18 as Romesh Munna tried desperately to pull off a come from behind victory for RHCC, when he claimed 3-10. Sean Jhetto with 2-3 and fast bowler Rafik Kassim 2-5 offered support to Munna.

In their first game, Berbice Police defeated Blairmont Community Centre (BCC) by 76 runs in their encounter which took place at the Blairmont.

Police won the toss and opting to take first strike reached 184-8 in a match which was reduced to 32 overs a side with Kenroy Henry (41), Cylus Gibson (34) and Albert Sinclair and Newland 21 each as Daniel Bourne took 2-27 along with Nedesh Basdeo (2-28) and Horace Mc Donald (2-29).

When BCC began their reply, they were bowled out for 108 from 30 overs even though Basdeo made a fighting 46 against the bowling of Albert Sinclair (2-7), Albert Doris (2-14) and Kwesi Peters 2-24.

In other matches, Albion Community Centre (ACC) defeated Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) by 47 runs in their encounter which took place at Port Mourant. Narsingh Deonarine who had a long lay off from competitive cricket due to a back injury which required surgery, led ACC’s batting with 28 and along with Imran Khan who made 25 and national leg spinner Devendra Bishu(21), saw their team to 157-8 from their 40 overs.

Troy Matheison with 3-28 who along with Ravi Narine 2-38 led the bowling for RHTWSB whose innings was declared close at 110-9 with Renwick Batson leading the way with 42. Delbert Hicks offered support with 20 as West Indies Under-19 and national left arm orthodox bowler Veerasammy Permaul took 6-15 from 7.2 overs for ACC.

At Blairmont, West Berbice defeated the home team by 41 runs in their encounter on Sunday. West Berbice won the toss and made 162-9 from their 40 over with Artley Bailey making 28 whilst Krisendat Ramoo with 30 and Kenje Sedoc 21 offered support with the bat.

Neil Singh with 3-12 and Anthony Narine 2-25 did the damage with the ball for BCC who were then routed for 121 from 33.5 overs despite the batting efforts of Basdeo who made an accomplished 44 and Karamdat Bissoondial with 26 as Sedoc took 5-17, Ramoo 2-17 and Dwayne Duke 2-38 bowling for West Berbice.
RHTWSB defeated Skeldon Community Centre by eight wickets in their encounter played on Saturday at Area H ground.

Skeldon lost the toss and were asked to take first strike before they were bowled out for 95 with only Clinton Pestano making 24 as the pint-sized Berbice under-15 off spinner Lloydel Lewis took 4-22 while Matheison had 2-14 and Eon Hooper 2-15.

RHTWSB made 99-2 in reply with Batson making an even 50 (4×4; 2×6) whilst Hicks lend support with 30.
