Lusignan man stabbed, robbed

A young man was beaten, stabbed and robbed by a gang of five on Friday night around 9.45 and is currently in the hospital recovering from the shock and the wounds that he had sustained as a result of the assault.

Syad Suliman, 21, who resides at Lot 66 Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, told this newspaper at the Georgetown Public Hospital, that he had been  riding his bicycle heading towards the back dam area of Annandale Market, when a gang of five men who were heading in the direction of the Public road stopped him. He said one of them snatched him off his bicycle and demanded money from him. When he refused to give them anything, they unleashed a torrent of blows to his body and that it was while being beaten that he was stabbed in the back with an ice pick and another unknown object that he described as thick and sharp.

Suliman said he lost consciousness and when he regained his senses, his bicycle, cell phone and $7,000 that he had in his possession were gone. He said someone later came along and took him to the Georgetown Hospital around 12.24 am.

Suliman said he had since given a statement to the police.
