Trio in pepper fracas to keep the peace for 12 months

A trio who allegedly assaulted each other was placed on a bond to keep the peace for 12 months after they refused to offer evidence against each other when they appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle on Wednesday at the Georgetown Court.

Annita Singh, 33, of Wales, West Bank Demerara pleaded guilty to unlawfully assaulting Marlon Williams, 23, of 105 Lamaha Street, Newtown Kitty, but Williams pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting her.

Singh’s reputed husband, Keron Wilson, 33, of Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour against Williams but Williams pleaded not guilty to disorderly behaviour against him.

Singh, who sells on the Avenue of the Republic, stated that on September 5, Williams, a bus conductor, dropped his food box in the area where she sells. She said that she told him to pick it up and when he refused an argument erupted. She went on to say as a result of the argument Williams picked up a wood and cutlass and threatened her. Singh added that she then confronted Williams and asked him what he was going to do with the weapons and Wilson who was also in the area  joined in, warning Williams not to touch her.

However, Williams stated that he never dropped his food box near Singh’s stall.  He explained that he was sitting nearby eating and   the pepper in the food caused him to get up in search of a drink. He said that he simply rested his food box down on the ground with the intention of returning after he had bought the drink.

He said that as he was leaving Singh told him to pick up the box but he said that he went on his way and when he returned she continued arguing and calling him names. He said that he got offended by her language and indicated his displeasure. He admitted picking up the wood and cutlass in case Wilson wanted a confrontation but stated  he did not do anything.
He said that Singh ran up to him and chucked him in his face and shortly after a policeman who was also in the area arrested all of them.

They all stated that they did not wish to proceed with the case and refused to offer evidence against each other. The magistrate subsequently dismissed the case and placed them on a bond to keep the peace for twelve months.
