Dear Editor,
Caricom countries have service-oriented economies, unlike Guyana which is seen as a major exporter of agricultural products to Europe. This makes the EPA satisfactory to them, and less concerned about Guyana’s welfare. It is also possible that Guyana can develop a greater manufacturing export base in the future. Guyana must immediately review its development plans to see how repercussions will affect them in the short term. Guyanese must plan, unite and have patience, for if the hydro-electric, oil exploration and other projects are successful, our future may not be as grim as feared. We have to look to our neighbours and outside Caricom for trade and investment. Guyana is a stepchild to Caricom and we must go to Plan B − better partners for development.
