Dear Editor,
Devonshire Castle is a medium-sized village of about 85 families, each striving for progress and a bright future for their children. There are institutions and facilities in the village and cooperation among villagers that create a healthy village atmosphere. Then what is the problem?
Bandits! The houses in this countryside village are not necessarily close together. There is a limited police presence. There are no street lights. A haven for bandits!
Almost every responsible villager spends sleepless nights due to fear. Almost every institution and building has suffered at the hands of these bandits, who boast of their prowess and ungodly and unethical success. Repeated requests for street lights were made to the NDC and the Mayor (Anna Regina). One such request was made as late as February 2008. To this day the villagers are made to suffer in darkness while the thieves roam about unseen.
I ask the question: What will it take for this village to have street lights? Do the villagers have to starve themselves and buy the lights themselves? Should the villagers all leave the community for safety? Will the authorities wait until the bandits employ violence? We have the Town Clerk living here unmolested. Do the villagers have to wait until the bandits target the Town Clerk before the authorities take action?
The villagers need help. The villagers need peace of mind and a sound sleep. The village needs street lights.
