Malaysian man dies in forestry accident

A Malaysian man was killed yesterday after he was crushed by a tree at an unknown interior location while he and other employees of the Jailing Forest Industries were working on a concession.

Dead is 56-year-old Hep Koi Kan. He is said to have sustained a crushed skull and hand, during the mishap. Stabroek News understands that the incident occurred sometime early yesterday morning and the man’s body which was transported by aircraft landed at the Ogle aerodrome sometime after 5 pm yesterday.

This newspaper has been unable to ascertain the events leading up the incident or exactly where it occurred. A visit to the company’s office last evening did not yield any information.

Two men who said they were employees of the company stated that while they were aware of the incident, they knew nothing about what may have transpired, where or when it happened.

They told Stabroek News that the `Boss’ was not available since she was on her way back to Hong Kong. They could not say how long the dead man has been working with the company. There was no one else on the premises who could have provided more information to this newspaper.

The man’s remains are currently lying at the Lyken’s Funeral home.
