The Ministry of Labour is awaiting a report on the death of the Malaysian man who was crushed at an interior forestry location on Tuesday, Minister Manzoor Nadir said yesterday.
Meanwhile a press release issued last evening said that the police are investigating the death of the Malaysian national Hep Kai Kan. The release said that the 60-year-old who was a production manager with the Jailing Forest Industry died at around 9 am on Tuesday.
Investigations revealed that Kai Kan was in the vicinity of where a chainsaw operator was cutting down a tree, the tree fell on him resulting in his death. The incident occurred at M2 Backdam, North West District. Kai Kan was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port Kaituma Hospital.
Stabroek News made contact with the Assistant CEO of the Jailing Company but he refused to comment on the issue and said that he cannot “amplify” on anything concerning the issue.
Earlier reports had stated that the man sustained a crushed skull and hand, during the mishap. His body was transported by aircraft to the Ogle aerodrome and landed sometime after 5 pm yesterday.
The man’s remains are currently lying at the Lyken’s Funeral home where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
