Drinking and then driving

Dear Editor,

Once again, I have read in the news of an accident at Pearl, EBD where three young men were involved in a car crash. Safety is everyone’s business and as such we must not close our eyes to wrongdoing. It seems that persons believe that they are immune to these risks and as such continue with reckless abandonment.
For more than two months, it was observed that the driver of a taxi [number supplied] utilizes the parking lot of the new Caricom Head Office for partying and indulging in alcoholic beverages from his car. The volume of music and conversation is, of course, of much disturbance to the residents nearby. The young man who partakes in this weekly activity, with others who live nearby, arrives at approximately 3.30am on Sunday mornings and indulges until dawn.

I am sure that upon leaving this place of entertainment, the level of alcohol in his system will result in him utilizing the road in an unsafe manner which will most certainly result in death to himself, his passengers or some innocent bystanders.

I am appealing, not only to these individuals, but also the law-abiding and responsible citizens of this country to encourage these young men to desist from these foolish acts and be sensitive to the needs and lives of others.

Yours faithfully,
