Greaves retains Hand-in-Hand title

Defending champion Alonso Greaves maintained his superiority over his opponents when he won the sixth annual Hand-in-Hand Life Insurance Company-sponsored 35-lap race around the inner circuit of the National Park yesterday.

Greaves, who has been in demolition mode on the local racing circuit, simply demolished the opposition on his way to claiming his second consecutive Hand-In-Hand championship.
He was forced to hold off strong challenges from Robin Persaud, who finished second, Geron Williams, third, Junior Niles, fourth, Christopher Holder, fifth, and Enzo Matthews, sixth.
Jason Pollydore carted off the Juvenile category from Jonathan Fagundes and the young and upcoming Marcia Dick of Berbice.

Dick, who is only 13-years-old, has been creating quit a stir this year and she maintained that impression after claiming the only ladies’ event of the day beating the popular Naomi Singh.
In the Veterans’ Under-50 category, Kennard Lovell bounced back to claim the winners’ trophy ahead of Mark Spencer and Shameer Baksh who finished second and third respectively while, in the Veterans’ Over-50 years of age category, Compton Persaud finished first ahead of Aubrey Gravesande and Maurice Fagundes.

The Upright category was dominated by Dexter Wilson with Stephen Roberts second and Dellon Singh third.

In the BMX events Raymond Perez won the boys’ 6-9-years-old event from Dineshwar Raghubeer and Rawle Mc Lean in that order while in the boys’ 9-12-years-of-age event, Tariq Baksh won from Orlando King and Perez respectively.

King bounced back to win the  boys’ 12-14-years-old category ahead of Jamaal Cromwell and Tariq Baksh who were second and third respectively.

In the girls’ BMX event, Crystal Blackman took first place and Kimberly Adams, second. And in the BMX Open category, Ozia Mac Aulay held off a strong challenge from the talented Fagundes to claim the coveted trophy. Third place went to Kunta McKenzie.
