GWI working on Kingston water

The Guyana Water Incor-porated (GWI) says it is working to restore potable water supply to Kingston.
The Government Infor-mation Agency quoted GWI Public Relations Officer Rawle Aaron as saying that the poor quality water supply at Kingston has been compounded because a stock of alum, a chemical used to purify water, will not arrive in Guyana on time due to hurricanes that affected Jamaica. Aaron said the company is reprogramming its pumping schedule to prolong supply of purified water. GWI is hopeful that the situation will be corrected within one week.

Aaron also said that frequent power outages are also affecting water distribution. According to the release “Some of the agency’s pumps depend on electricity to channel water and as a result of frequent power outages consumers will experience the reduction in water supply.”
