Squatting at Turkeyen and also playing music loudly

Dear Editor,
There are several squatters along the northern railway embankment road reserve in Turkeyen, between Liliendaal and the University of Guyana Access Road. From all indications, these houses are not served by GPL or GWI. However, most of these houses are fully powered and more recently a particular resident has been playing music very loudly during the day and all hours of the night.

We have called the police on several occasions, sometimes they respond and sometimes they do not. However, I do agree that the police have more serious matters to attend to than to deal with noise nuisance which is blatantly being exhibited.

The power company, if vigilant in their duties would also recognize that many of these persons are indeed stealing the electricity which law-abiding taxpayers are paying for. The Ministry of Housing in their endeavours to eradicate squatting must also look into this situation and finally the Ministry of Home Affairs with their campaign against noise nuisance is asked to attend to this matter.

Residents of the Turkeyen/ Lilendaal area who are legal home owners and who try to uphold a decent community are being overrun by these squatters who have no regard for the law and do not pay taxes or utility bills but are allowed to build houses, extend these houses haphazardly and conduct themselves in the most lawless manner. And the amazing thing is that they are allowed to get away with it.
Yours faithfully,
Resident of Turkeyen
