Trafficking in persons charge dismissed

A woman charged with Trafficking in Persons over two years ago had the charge against her dismissed when the matter was called at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

In her first appearance in court in September 2006, Ramdai Narine called ‘Nadeen’, of 99 Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo had pleaded not guilty to a charge of trafficking in persons and was placed on $15,000 bail by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.

It was alleged that between January 17 and March 28 Narine trafficked in persons that is to say she harboured the virtual complainant by means of a position of vulnerability for the purpose of exploitation. The virtual complainant, a female, was 15-years-old at the time.

On Tuesday, the magistrate dismissed the charge. He said that the police had not done proper investigations.
