As the saying goes, `All’s well, that ends well,’ which was how the sixth annual Supligen All-star weekend concluded on Sunday last at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

And what a way to end the weekend for Linden whose senior team emulated the juniors when they thrashed Georgetown 58-30 to complete a clean sweep for Linden.

The game was a one-sided affair from jump ball with Linden taking full control of the court.

The city side looked out of sorts all night and failed to live up to the hype which was promised by them leading up to the game.

In several pre-game interviews with players and coaches of both teams, a good game was promised.
But an entire different picture was painted by the Linden team who were the ones to not only `talk the talk’ but `walked the walk.’

Even the city side’s supporters were beaten into submission.

The evening certainly belonged to Trinidadian Steven “Lighter” Lewis and the Linden unit. Lewis, along with national power forward Dwayne “Brown Sugar” Roberts, teamed up to become a thorn in coach Lugard Mohan and his Georgetown team with Lewis taking charge of offence while Roberts controlled the boards.

As a matter of fact, it took Georgetown approximately five minutes to register their first basket and the score at the end of the first quarter was 11-4.

Linden continued to dominate the game and Georgetown could find no answers but, being loyal to their players, the city team’s supporters in the packed venue were still vociferously cheering them on.
At half time Linden led 29-10.

Even though they were down by 19 points going into the second half, the spectators were hoping to see a dramatic come back since in previous matches between the two sides, it happened.

But, Lewis and Roberts had other intentions.

Their clinical display of basketball continued throughout the second half which resulted in them blowing away Georgetown by 18 points (58-30)

Lewis returned to Trinidad with another All-Star MVP trophy as he rattled in 19 points, two rebounds and two steals.

Roberts ended with a double-double netting 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
National point guard Marvin Hartman chipped in with eight points.

For Georgetown the Courts Pacesetters trio of Naylon Loncke, Stephon Gillis and Royston Siland were the only players to put up some resistance.

Loncke had 10 points while Gillis and Siland scored eight and six points respectively.

Each player from both teams went home with 13 thousand dollars for their showing at the 2008 event.

According to the organizers, they were grateful for the support given to them by the public and as such they are promising something special for next year.
