-after confession statement thrown out
Accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death two years ago, manslaughter accused Shelly Patrick walked out of the High Court on Thursday a free woman after a jury returned with a not guilty verdict.
Justice Winston Patterson freed the 23-year-old one day after he had thrown out a confession from the woman, which the prosecution had tendered as evidence.
The judge ruled that the confession was inadmissible.
Following the rejection of the evidence State Prosecutor Fabio Azore, did not to lead any further evidence. Patrick’s attorney Mark Waldron then submitted that there was no case for Patrick to answer and the judge agreed.
Patrick, of Lot 12 ‘A’ Queen Street, South Cummingsburg, was accused of killing the father of her child.
Jimmy Carter of Cemetery Road, Lodge suffered a stab wound to his heart and was left to die on a street in Tiger Bay before being transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital by police, where he was pronounced dead on September 17.
The man was 25 years at the time of his death.
The stabbing of Carter who was a mini-bus conductor followed an argument between the couple who had reportedly shared a turbulent six-year relationship.
At the time of the death relatives of both parties’ lamented the tragedy, and said they had tried their best to separate the couple but had failed.
