Thief uses scaffold to break into GT&T

Leaving a scaffold up against the building proved to be a mistake for GT&T as unknown persons used it to gain entry into the upper flat of the Lot 69 Brickdam office in the wee hours of yesterday morning and escape with a computer monitor.

Stabroek News understands that a security guard was on duty, but it is unclear where he was at the time of the breakage which occurred on the eastern side of the building.

Workers turned up yesterday morning to find police ranks carrying out investigations.

A source told this newspaper that rehabilitation works were recently done on the building and a scaffold was left up on the eastern side.

According to the source, the culprit(s) used it to climb to a window on the upper floor, removed several louvre panes and gained entry to the building which houses a number of departments, including the Customer Service Division. Drawers were tumbled up as the intruder(s) searched.

It was subsequently discovered that a flat-screen monitor from a section of the Customer Services Division was missing. From investigations, this newspaper was told, nothing else was taken.

Police are continuing investigations into the matter.
