Construction worker suffers electrical shock at Sheriff St site

A man who was assisting with works at a construction site on Sheriff Street was yesterday hospitalised as a result of being shocked after coming into contact with electrical wire and falling from the scaffold.

The injured man has been identified as 48-year old Jeoranie Mezquia Gonzalez of Kitty, Georgetown. He is currently a patient at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

Police yesterday said that the incident occurred about 1:10 pm at Lot 12 Sheriff Street Georgetown where businessman Sheriff Ahmad is constructing a medical centre.

Investigations revealed that Gonzalez was visiting Ahmad at the site at around 10 am and began to help the workers thereafter.

At about 1.10 pm, the police said Gonzalez was outside the building on the eastern side on a scaffold of about 24 feet in height, handling a metal pipe about 20 ft. in length, when it came into contact with the electrical line outside the building and he was shocked.

As a result of the shock, he fell off the scaffold and landed on the ground. Ahmad told police he heard a loud noise and rushed to the area to enquire. He reportedly found Gonzalez on the ground with burn injuries to his hands, legs and chest area and a laceration to the back of his head.

He was picked up and rushed to the medical institution where he was examined and admitted by a doctor.
