Govt to tone down Christmas dos

The government is considering a single Christmas party for all government agencies to be hosted by the Office of President in its efforts to deal with the “fiscal constraints” it is facing.
According to Cabinet Secretary, Dr Roger Luncheon this idea was mooted at last Thursday’s meeting of cabinet during the examination of the preparation for the Christmas season.
In the meanwhile, ministers were asked to “exercise financial restraint in their planning for their customary activities hosted by ministry departments and regions.

“We are concerned about trying to provide some respect for our tradition but at the same time not to appear to be flying in the face of the necessary fiscal rigorous constraints that confront the administration as well as the Guyanese people,” Luncheon said.

Additionally, the idea of a single locally produced Christmas card for distribution was also discussed.
