Livestock farmer, shot robbed

– after leaving door open
A livestock farmer who was shot in his right shoulder and later robbed of several items yesterday around 7 pm at his Lot 4 Water Street, Bagotstown home is currently in the High Dependency Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Forty-year-old Philbert Kaladeen was surrounded by family members yesterday afternoon when Stabroek News visited him at the hospital.

The relatives told this newspaper that Kaladeen who usually leaves his front door open during the day was on his way to take a bath when a lone gunman entered his home; the bottom flat of his family’s two-storey residence. They said Kaladeen told them that, “de man [the attacker] tell he fuh lie down on de ground and when he do that, de man shoot him in de right side shoulder.”

Kaladeen’s son, who was also at the hospital, told Stabroek News that neighbours had given him the licence plate number of the car his father’s assailant drove, since they had seen when he ran out of the house and drove away. He said he was also informed that the car was seen several times earlier that day traversing the area and after the incident the car was again seen passing through the area.

The son related that he was also on his way to take a bath when he heard the explosion. He said that he ran over to his father’s home, which is not far from where he lives and discovered him lying in a pool of blood. “He tell me fuh hurry and tie he shoulder cause de bullet in he arm” said the son. The son said his father told him he did not know his attacker.

Kaladeen was soon rushed to the St Joseph Mercy Hospital by relatives but he was later transferred to the Georgetown Public hospital.

Meanwhile, the relatives said they were informed that the bullet was currently lodged near Kaladeen spinal cord, so at present the right side of his body is paralysed.

The relatives also related to Stabroek News that the attacker had taken Kaladeen’s gold band, his cell phone and his wallet.

They said Kaladeen’s sister, mother and father were at the top flat of the house when the incident occurred. They said the sister told them that at first she thought the loud explosion was a fire cracker but that perception soon changed when Kaladeen’s son ran upstairs shouting that his father had been shot.

The family had also informed Stabroek News that a report was made to the police station about the incident but it was not clear if the attacker had been apprehended.
