The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), the body in charge of cricket in the capital city, yesterday made a small financial donation to eight of the 14 cricketers who are members of the Guyana under-17 team.
At a simple ceremony held at the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) hostel, president of the GCA, Bishwa Panday urged the players who are all members of clubs affiliated to the GCA, to be good ambassadors for their country and to do their best and be on their best behaviour at all times.
“The GCA is very happy to be able to make this little donation to eight members of the 14-man squad which leaves these shores shortly to represent Guyana in neighbouring Trinidad and Tobago in an under-17 competition.”
“These eight persons are members of Georgetown clubs and we are happy to know that out of a squad of 14, a sub-association can provide eight persons, including the captain, and this achievement is the direct result of the competitions we have been playing, as well as the hard work both the executives of the GCA and the respective clubs have been executing,” Panday said.
Captain of the team that will depart on Tuesday morning and member of the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC), Dexter Solomon thanked the GCA for assisting the cricketers with the stipend. The GCA also made a financial donation to the auxiliary staff of the hostel.
