Two members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) are missing following a boating mishap on the Cuyuni River on Monday evening.
The incident occurred around 8.30 pm and involved soldiers who were stationed at Eteringbang, a release from the GDF stated.
According to reports, about six soldiers were engaged in one of their periodic patrols of the area when the mishap occurred. Searches were conducted and “so far two soldiers remain missing”, the army said.
The family members of the missing officers have since been informed by the GDF Welfare Department, as the search continues for the soldiers.
Meanwhile, the army has sent a team into the area to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and a board of inquiry has also been launched, the release added.
