“Dem telling stories my Worship,” stated Nigel Reece who allegedly attempted to steal a laptop computer from the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security.
Reece, 43, of 2073 South Ruimveldt initially pleaded guilty to attempting to commit a felony. It is alleged that on December 10, Reece attempted to steal a Dell laptop computer valued $147,000, property of the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security.
“De office had x amount of employees, am I crazy to go deh fuh thief something,” stated Reece.
He explained that he had left his work to go to the ministry to uplift a form for his son and when he got there “I knocked on de door and a lady answer and ask me what I want.” He said that he told her who he had to meet but she took him to another man who again asked him what he wanted.
Reece stated that he answered him but the man started to push him. “I start fuh cuss cause de man push me down de steps.” He went on to say that as he was “carrying on” the man told him that he was going to have him arrested and shortly after the man pushed him into a car and took him to the police station where he was arrested. He said that “De police dem din even know what to charge me with and now today I hear I try fuh steal some laptop from de minister and I ransack he office, I ain’t do nothing like dah.”
The magistrate then entered a not guilty plea for Reece.
However, the prosecution stated that at the time of the incident no one was in the office and Reece was caught by the security guard with the computer in his hand.
The magistrate subsequently placed Reece on bail in the sum of $20,000 and transferred the case to Court Two for January 5.
