LONDON, England, CMC – Rookie West Indies fast bowlers Andrew Richardson and Nelon Pascal are chomping at the bit for their first taste of international cricket.
The pair were called up for their first Windies tour in the 17-squad for the two-Test tour of England which bowls off next week.
“I am extremely delighted to be selected to represent the West Indies. As a boy growing up in Jamaica it was always my dream to represent the West Indies and now I have made it. I’m ready to do my duty,” said the 27-year old Richardson who played a key role in Jamaica’s capture of the WICB Regional first class title this year. “I want to make the most of it and prove myself. My ambition is to try to help the West Indies win and continue the success the team has started. I would like to be known as someone who is a good team man and always willing to make a contribution.” Richardson, who has already played several first class seasons for Jamaica, has been dogged by his lack of fitness in the past but said he had worked hard to overcome this problem.
“I made myself fit and I played my role for Jamaica this year. I am really looking forward to playing at the international level,” he noted.
Pascal, a lively 25-year old pacer, said his season for the Windward Islands in the first class tournament had boosted his hopes of making the Windies squad.
“I was performing really well for the Windward Islands this season so I was not totally surprised that I was selected for this tour. At the same time I am excited to be given the opportunity to represent the West Indies at the highest level,” said the Grenadian, who grabbed 25 wickets in eight matches.
“My main strength is my pace and my ability to bowl straight so I will be looking to perform at the best ability every time I get the opportunity. I will also try to learn as much as I can and look to improve.”
West Indies arrived here Thursday and will travel to Leicester for their first tour match, a three-day match against the County side at Grace Road, starting on Monday.
