Mother of six charged with shoplifting rum

Magistrate Krishendat Persaud granted $25,000 bail to a Georgetown mother of six when she appeared before him in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court charged with shoplifting rum.

Eulex Cosbert of Lot 34 East La Penitence pleaded not guilty to a charge of simple larceny.

Police alleged that on April 12, Cosbert and three females went into J’s Supermarket, Essex Street.

Because of previous losses, staff were monitoring the women on surveillance cameras and allegedly saw Cosbert pick up a bottle of El Dorado 15-year-old rum and place it in her handbag. She was then confronted by proprietor Raymond Samaroo, who alerted police.

The case is fixed for hearing on May 25.
