Haslington man robbed, shot

A Haslington, East Coast Demerara man was yesterday shot and wounded when he resisted armed bandits who later escaped with a quantity of jewellery he was wearing at the time.

Glendon Cosbert sustained a gunshot injury to his left leg. He was later treated at the Georgetown Hospital.

Police said in a press release yesterday that about 08:30 hrs Cosbert, 47, and his wife were walking along an access road at Haslington when they were confronted by two men armed with handguns who held them up and took away jewellery from Cosbert.

“Glendon Cosbert put up a resistance during the robbery and was shot to his left leg,” the release said, adding that the motor vehicle the perpetrators reportedly used to escape from the scene was later found abandoned in the Haslington North area.

Investigations are in progress.
