No new leads in van Beek shooting

Since the release of the two suspects in the shooting of Commissioner of Insurance Maria van Beek, police investigators have been unable to come up with new leads that could locate the perpetrators of the brazen crime.

However top officials maintain that although the men were not positively identified during an identification parade on Monday, investigations are still continuing.
The motorcycle that the men escaped on has not been found and no further details have been provided.

One of the suspects was held hours after the incident at a Georgetown location while the other was arrested on Sunday.
They are both on station bail and are required to report to the police regularly.

Van Beek, the judicial manager of the ailing insurance company CLICO, was on her way to work when the shooting occurred last Thursday.
According to reports, she was stuck in a long line of traffic at the junction of Lombard and Leopold streets during a heavy downpour when a gunman walked up to her vehicle and fired a single shot through the driver’s side window. He jumped on a waiting motor cycle parked on Leopold Street and fled.
