Milo Under-21 Competition

Pele to face Camptown in final

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) football squad was disqualified from the almost-concluded Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Milo Under-21 round robin knockout tournament after it was discovered that they had competed with a player over the age limit.

A protest against the GDF was made by Pele after the semi-final match-up between the two teams had ended  and the army team had won 5–2 in the inaugural championship.

According to a member from the GFA the protest was accepted by the technical committee and the matter was reviewed, leading to the finding that indeed the army team had played in the semi-final with a squad member who was over the age limit.

The technical committee then decided to immediately disqualify  the team  from the tournament and elevate Pele from the third place showdown with Fruta Conquerors to the final where they will face Sunburst Camptown.

Meanwhile, Conquerors have automatically been awarded the third place finish but are billed to face Riddim Squad in an exhibition match which begins at 5 pm prior to the final between Camptown and Pele which is scheduled to kick off at 7pm.

After tonight’s final one team will have the bragging rights for the next year being the top under-21 team in Georgetown and will walk away with the Milo Under-21 trophy along with a $60,000 cash incentive while the runner-up will have to settle for $30,000.

The Fruta Conquerors who have already booked the third place spot will exit the tournament with $20,000 and the third place trophy but  it is not clear which team will be in fourth place.
