GDF regrets ineligible player infraction

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has apologized to the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) and supporters for not being able to participate in the final of the GFA Milo Under-21 final last evening due to an “impropriety” regarding a player.

As had been reported earlier, the army team which qualified for the finals was disqualified after it was found to have had a player in its team who was over the age limit. In a press release, the team said it regretted the infraction and gave assurances that such behaviour is not sanctioned in its administration. The army said too it has launched an investigation into the matter and those found culpable will be disciplined.

The GDF’s last contested match was in the semi-final against Pele who lodged the complaint with the technical committee. The matter was investigated and the team found to be at fault. The GDF says it remains committed to ensuring that its team is disciplined and adheres to the highest principles and ideals generally and in sport. It said it will take every measure to ensure that such violations do not recur.
