Dear Editor,
Recently there was on TV a poultry rearer showing off the extent of his poultry business and stating how lucky he was and how he proposed expanding his business.
Editor, my congratulations go out to the good gentleman, but my concern is for the consumer like myself.
Everywhere I turn I can see trays and trays of eggs exposed for sale, and yet the price of a single egg averages $25 to $30, not cents, each. More disturbing, the price of chicken now sells at $340 per pound when imported chicken can be had from Trinidad in large quantities and at a far cheaper price than that which obtains here now.
My question is this: is government assisting the local producer in reaping a harvest at the expense of the consumer? Is the government blind to the suffering of the populace?
