Wounding accused blames it on the alcohol

A labourer yesterday blamed drinking when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on a felonious wounding charge.

It is alleged that on April 29 at Georgetown, Ravin Ramlogan, 23, of 68 Robert Street, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Abdul Safeek with intent to maim, disfigure, or cause him grievous bodily harm to the said Abdul Safeek. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was subsequently remanded to prison.

When given a chance to respond, Ramlogan explained to the court that he was drinking with Safeek when they started arguing after which a physical altercation ensued. “My worship, I jus give he a lil ting in he head, is nah nothing big and serious,” the defendant reasoned.

The case was transferred to the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court for Friday.
