Bran’s Security boss slapped with perverting course of justice charge

The owner of Bran’s Security, Harold Brandford on Wednesday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on a charge of attempting to pervert the course  of justice to which he was not required to plead.

It is alleged that on April 4, Brandford, a father of three, of South Ruimveldt, willingly attempted to obstruct, pervert or corrupt the course  of justice by attempting to persuade Edwards Norman to change his statement in a case that is currently under police investigation.

However, Brandford’s lawyer Nigel Hughes applied for bail for him on the grounds that his client was unaware of the charge.

The magistrate then informed Brandford that an arrest warrant had been issued for him since April 24 as he had failed to report to the Criminal Investigation Department, Eve Leary, on April 8 for information on the case.

Hughes then stated that his client was out of the country at that time and was not aware that he had to return to the police station.

The prosecution made no objections to the bail application and it was subsequently granted in the sum of $75,000. Brandford is scheduled to return to court on May 8.
