Busta champion of champions, Kool Kidz competitions begin tomorrow

The 2009 Busta Champion of Champions and Kool Kidz tournament will bowl off tomorrow with four matches. Both tournaments which will be featuring eight of Berbice’s first division teams and several school teams are sponsored by Guyana Beverage Company (GBC) and organised by the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club. Defending champions Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) which will include Assad Fudadin, Andre Percival, Renwick Batson, Khemraj Mahadeo, Michael Hicks and Troy Mathieson would open their defence against Police at the Area “H” Ground.

Police would depend heavily on Michael Newland, Albert Sinclair, Jerry Heyliger and Michael Saul. Umpires are Zaheer Moakan and Mahendra Singh.

At Blairmont, the home team Blairmont  would  be spearheaded by West Indies “A” team fast bowler Brendon Bess and includes Karimdat Bissoondial and Nedesh Basdeo.

They  are to play West Berbice who would be led by national Under-19 fast bowlers Keon Joseph and Keron Fraser and  will include Eon Abdel, Sherwin Mc Pherson and Krisendat Ramoo. Umpires are Raffik Latiff and Shawn Cunjah.

Scotsburg would host Rose Hall Canje at Skeldon with the home team challenge being led by Robert Moore, Alex Amsterdam, Mark Lionel and Anthony Bramble while Rose Hall Canje would be led by Sanjay Khan, Jameel Blair, Romash Munna and Raffeek Kassim. Umpires are Clement Brusche and Augustus Outar.

The final match of the opening round would feature Bermine and Young Warriors at the Canje Welfare Ground. National player Gajanand Singh, Balram Samaroo, Hubern Evans, Farouk Hussain and Kwesi Maltay would spearhead Young Warriors while Bermine would have Julian Moore, Andrew Williams, Jamal La Fleur, Shawn Baksh and Steve De Fraites. Umpires are Jai Hardeo and Imran Moakan.

The winning team of the tournament would receive $100,000 and the Busta trophy and the runner-up $50,000.

Meanwhile, the 2009 Kool Kidz Inter-Secondary School Twenty/20 bowls off tomorrow at several venues across Region 6. The tournament has been organized by the RHTYSC  with the aim of promoting sports as an alternative to a life on the streets.

Defending champions Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary would kick off their defence against J.C Chandisingh Secondary at the Port Mourant Cricket Ground. Other matches to be played are:

Skeldon High School will oppose Line Path Secondary at the Scotsburg ground, Tagore Secondary  and  Central Corentyne Secondary will battle at Tagore, Black Bush Polder Secondary will face   Winifred Gaskin Secondary  at Bush Lot Farm, and Port Mourant Secondary School will go up against  Lower Corentyne at Area “H” Ground.

Canje Secondary School and Vryman’s Erven Secondary face each other at Cumberland and Berbice High School  will be matched against Tutorial Academy  at the Berbice High School Ground while New Amsterdam Secondary School and Berbice Educational Institute will do battle at the Canje Welfare Ground. All matches commence at 14:00 hours.
