-bail still refused
Rape accused Colin Mack was yesterday refused bail and further remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson as the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the case continues.
A police officer and a Detective Lance Corporal yesterday stood in the witness box and presented evidence.
Attorney-at-Law Rexford Jackson, who appeared in association with Attorney Glenn Hanoman, renewed an application for bail on the grounds that most of the witnesses called by the prosecution had already testified.
Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith however objected to bail stating that the virtual complainant’s mother is yet to stand in the witness box. She added also, that if bail were to be considered, there is the likelihood of possible witness tampering.
Mack was subsequently refused bail and remanded to prison until May 29.
The PI is being conducted by the Acting Chief Magistrate who will determine upon its conclusion whether a prima facie case has been made out against Mack at which stage the indictable charge will either be sent to the High Court for trial or thrown out.
It is alleged that on April 12, Mack had sexual intercourse with a 19-year-old girl without her consent. He is not required to plead to the indictable charge of rape.
