Adelphi and Tain reach NBS second division play-offs

Rajesh Adhar slams 115 n.o. for No. 65

The 2008 New Building Society (NBS) Challenge Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition organised by the Berbice Cricket Board for teams in the Ancient County continued last weekend with wins for Adelphi and Tain.

Adelphi of East Canje and Tain of Port Mourant became the latest teams to reach the last 16 of the competition after winning their latest preliminary matches.

In Zone G, Adelphi defeated Young Guns of Susannah by 110 runs in their 20-overs-a-side match thanks mainly to Avinash Khandai (58) and off-spinner Michael Butcher (5 for 15).

Then they disposed of Palmyra Young Strikers by 66 runs while in Zone `J’ Tain registered a comfortable seven-wicket win over Johns.

Highlighting play in other matches was the unbeaten 115 decorated with 12 fours and five sixes by Adhar for Number 65 in their match against Number 64 Moonmen.

His contribution, together with 55 from Rajendra Chandradat helped No. 65 reach 252 for 5 in their allotted 35 overs.

The Moonmen were routed for 73 in their response.

Other batsmen registering half centuries were Mahendranauth Vincent of Number 71, Vickey Veerasammy of Fyrish Road, Tosho Forrester of Big Star, Vincent Chattergoon of Strykers and Jainauth Chandelall of Woodley Park Young Strikers.

At Goed Bananen Land, Adelphi beat Palmyra Young Strikers by 66 runs. Adelphi 144 in 30 overs with Kris Sabhai 39, Krishna Dipoo 34, Imtiaz Hussain 4 for 29. Palmyra Young Strikers 78 in 23.2 overs with Collis Greaves 3 for 28.

Johns, Tain beat Johns by seven wickets. Johns 111 in 34 overs with Roopnarine Ramgobin 2 for 10. Tain 112 for 3 in 21 overs with Mahendra Baldeo 43, Imran Kahn 30.

At No. 65, No. 65 beat No. 64 Moonmen by 179 runs. No. 65, 252 for 5 in 35 overs with Rajesh Adhar 115 n.o; Rajendra Chandradat 55.

No. 64 Moonmen 73 in 20 overs with Anil Armogan 6 for 13.

At No. 71, No. 70 Lalman beat No. 71 by 2 wickets. No. 71, 193 in 34.1 overs with Mahendranauth Vincent 50, Nazim Mohamed 35, Nirmal Yacoob  4 – 34. No. 70 Lalman 195 – 8 in 34 overs with Chatterpaul Lionel 46, Bheem Singh 37, Balram Chaitram 35.

At Susannah, Mental Hospital beat Young Guns by 10 runs. Mental Hospital 122 in 23.1 overs with Errol Munroe 28. Young Guns 112 in 21.1 overs with Errol Munroe 3 for 16.

At Seawell, Seawell beat Gangaram Strykers by 23 runs. Seawell 156 in 32.2 overs with Naurang Singh 37 N.O, Naitram Jainabi 36, Bharat Pooran 3 for 27, Lackram Hussain 2 for 11. Gangaram Strykers 133 in 30.4 overs with Marvin Pydana 30, Naurang Singh 5 for 25.

At Fyrish Bush Dam, Fyrish Road beat Fyrish by 6 wickets. Fyrish Road 165 for 4 in 30.4 overs with Vickey Veerasammy 64 N.O., William Dass 29.

At Whim, Whim National beat Johns by 8 runs. Whim National 163 in 35 overs with Andy Appadoo 36, Ruel Pergass 3 for 27. Johns 155 in 31.3 overs with Vinode Samaroo 40, Parasram Tilkuram 5 for 22.

At Letterkenny, Big Star of Ulverston beat Letterkenny Young Star by 130 runs. Big Star 209 in 40 overs with Tosho Forrester 65, Richard Smith 33, John Velloza 28. Letterkenny Young Star 74 in 22 overs with Anil Inderjeet 38, Royden Gray 4 for 38, John Velloza 3 for 27.

At Crabwood Creek, Strykers beat Crabwood Creek Rising by 142 runs. Strykers 230 for 9 in 40 overs with Vincent Chattergoon 74, Amit Rambharose 3 for 25. Crabwood Creek Rising 88 in 23.3 overs with Eric Jamesay 4 for 27, Jamal Khan 3 for 28.
