Medicine Chest table tennis tournament wraps up…

Guyana’s two young leading table tennis players Trenace Lowe and Nigel Bryan again took center stage at the Medicine Chest-sponsored tournament which concluded yesterday at the Malteenoes Sports Club.

The two players, fresh off of their impressive showing at the National Sports Commission (NSC) annual Independence tournament, repeated their outstanding displays on their way to the top.

Lowe carted off the women’s singles title stopping Natalie Cummings 12-10, 13-11 and 12-10.
She would cap her remarkable form in the tournament when she edged out Bryan and Joel Alleyne to capture the 21-years-and-under title.

Bryan took home the men’s singles championship after a pulsating final against Paul Meusa which he won by three games to two.

Bryan won the first set 11-7 but Meusa used his experience to rebound well and win the second 11-9.
Bryan pulled ahead in the third 11-9 but ran out of steam in the fourth which Meusa took 11-7.
Bryan would show why he is one of the best young players in the land of many waters as he used his wit and determination to win the final set 11-7.

Meanwhile, in the 40-years-and-over Masters’ class, Marlon Washington beat Remy Taitt 11-9, 9-11, 8-11, 11-9 and 11-2 to clinch the title.

Stephan Patoir came out on top in the boys’ 15-years-and-under championship ahead of Elishaba Johnson, Samuel Fraser and Sunil Logan.

Logan turned the tables on Johnson to win the boys’ 13-years-and-under title with Kyle Edghill third.
The girls’ 15-years-and-under trophy went to Akecia Nedd with Adeille Rosheuvel and Chelsea Edghill finishing second and third respectively.

Organiser Linden Johnson lauded the effort shown by the players in the tournament and said he believed the younger players showed their hunger to make their way to the top.

He thanked the Medicine Chest for their sponsorship of the event and said he hoped that they will continue to work with the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA).
