MYS&C Inter Block Football Competition…

Belfield Tigers and Mid Section Lions are slated to clash in the final of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYS&C) Inter Block Football Competition this Saturday at the Victoria Community Centre Ground after gaining victories over their opponents in the semi-final round.

The final commences at 4:30pm while prior to that match up will be the female encounter between Georgetown and Victoria Kings at 3pm.
Tigers edged Backdam Super Eagles 2 – 1 in the double header that had Lions billed to meet Road Front Elephants who turned up late with an under strength team for the encounter thus giving Lions a victory by walkover to enter the final.

The Elephants had lost one of their games and the other was a no result after they had protested for an offside which was blown against them in the match against Backdam Super Eagles.

In the feature which got underway around 4:30pm, the ‘Giant Killers’, Tigers, stunned the opposition in a tough encounter as both teams displayed their qualities and skills.

The Eagles whose supporters out numbered the Tigers started off at a very hot pace from the first whistle with Marlis Johnson and Dwayne Marks missing two good opportunities to score and go ahead.

Tigers then got into full swing and started to demonstrate their skills and it was not long before it paid off as Aubrey Gibson, the tournament’s leading goal scorer, executed a beautiful header from a corner kick in the 24th minute to give Tigers the lead.

That goal forced the Eagles to make some adjustments as Premier League Player Samuel Blackette was pushed into the mid field to create more opportunities for the Backdam boys who looked desperate for the equalizer.

At half time the score remained at 1-0 in favour of the Belfield Tigers then after the break the Tigers made two changes where Eon Cameron came in for Lowattie Holder and Trevor Fraser came in for George Colin Hope.

Tigers should have increased their lead in the 54th minute but Rollox Gouveia’s shot at goal hit the bar then the Tigers continued to raid the Eagles forcing a few brilliants saves from goal keeper Ron Collins.

Eagles never gave up and they were rewarded in the 70th minute when Johnson finished professionally after getting past defender Kempton Williams and beating goal keeper Richard Prior with a well place shot to his right.

Aubrey Gibson took his tally of goals to four when he beat substitute keeper Marlon Marks with a powerful header in the 81st minute when he had received a cross from national Under-20 player Donald Lutchman.
