Probe on into aircraft overrun

The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority  (GCAA)   said yesterday it is conducting an investigation into the incident involving  a Roraima Airways Britten Norman Islander aircraft which overran the runway on Thursday at the Iwokrama  Aerodrome when attempting to take off.

According to a press release, a team from the GCAA went to the Iwokrama Aerodrome  on Thursday midday  and ascertained that the runway was not soggy as reported by the Kaieteur News, but  there  was heavy rainfall after the incident involving the Roraima Airways aircraft.

However, the runway surface was found to be compacted and firm and two other flights landed and took off without incident.  The release said further that one carried the stranded passengers while the other took off at its full capacity of ten persons, including the investigating team and the engineers along with their equipment without any difficulty.

The investigation is ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available, the release added.
