Taxi driver placed on bond

– wife withdraws from  theft charge

A 43-year-old taxi driver who allegedly stole a car battery belonging to his wife was on Friday placed on a bond to keep the peace for two years when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. It is alleged that on June 30 at Georgetown, John Duncan of 6 Little Diamond East Bank Demerara stole one car battery valued $22,000 property of Ivory Ross.

Duncan pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.

The defendant when given a chance to speak told the court that the issue arose out of a misunderstanding between him and his wife and added that he had returned the battery.

His wife, who was in court, said that she no longer wished to pursue the matter.

The parties were called to the bench and a lengthy discussion ensued.

Duncan was later placed on a bond.
