Magistrate Ann McLennan issued arrest warrants for two Linden drivers who failed to appear in court on Tuesday to answer to charges for traffic offences.
The magistrate made the order at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court after entering not guilty pleas for Collie Fraser of 93 Amelia’s Ward, and Fred Paul of Linden.
It was alleged that on June 3, Fraser drove motor vehicle PLL 2754 in a dangerous manner along the Kara Kara public road when he was stopped by Police Constable Julian Thomas. He was arrested and escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station.
Thomas testified that Fraser had overtaken two vehicles along the road while speeding. He was found guilty of the charge in his absence and fined $50,000 or the alternative of two months imprisonment.
Additionally, Police Constable Joel Whyte told the court that on June 5, Paul was seen putting off passengers from his private car PFF 9663 and then proceeded to solicit passengers to enter his car. When confronted Paul said that he needed money to support his family.
He too was found guilty in his absence and fined $10,000 or the alternative of one week’s imprisonment. A previous arrest warrant had been issued for Paul but police have failed to apprehend him. That warrant has been withdrawn and a not guilty plea instituted.
